The latest issue of the DYW Orkney Employers’ newsletter has been published. This issue includes details of an Employment Support Showcase being held in November, which is open to any employer who is struggling to recruit and looking for help and advice to grow and develop their workforce. We also have information about the DYW Pledge which launched in August, replacing the Young Person's Guarantee, and we look back on some of the employer engagement activity the team has undertaken so far this academic year. An event showcasing the variety of careers available in the construction industry was recently held in the Orkney Auction Mart. Organised by Orkney Construction Training Group (OCTG) and supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the Construction Careers Event showcased the different trades available, highlighting the variety of skills that are needed across the industry. Read carefully through any documents the employer may have provided on the job listing, and make any improvements to your CV as you see fit. However, don't be tempted to lie! Even if they don't have any paid vacancies this demonstrates that you are proactive and motivated. They may be able to offer you an internship or placement, and when a vacancy does come up within the company, they might even ask you first. The Isles Career Roadshow was developed by the DYW School Co-ordinator for the three Junior High Schools, giving pupils who live on Sanday, Stronsay and Westray the chance to meet local employers and learn more about the careers available across Orkney. |
