planning for the future

Planning for the Future is a programme that has been designed to help you develop your Career Management Skills and plan what you want to do after you leave school.  It will help you with writing a CV, applying for a college course, apprenticeship or job and, preparing for an interview.  You will need these skills throughout your working life, so even if you are still studying, have a job or apprenticeships, the information in this programme will benefit you in the future.

This programme has been developed by Developing the Young Workforce Orkney and Skills Development Scotland and while some of the information is aimed at school pupils, it will also be useful to anyone who has already left school and is looking for a job or applying to college.

The programme has been split into three parts:

  • Making Decisions;
  • Your Options and,
  • Finding and Getting a Job.

You will find more information about each section below.

The following presentation will introduce you to the programme and help you understand some of the skills that employers are looking for in their employees.

If you're having problems accessing the above presentation, you can view the powerpoint here.  To hear the narration with this presentation, select Slide Show and play the presentation from the beginning.

Below you will also find two additional videos that it will be useful for you to watch.
