Developing the Young Workforce Orkney have launched an activity planner to enable local employers to view the activity we have planned for the year ahead so they can plan their involvement. We undertake a range of activities and initiatives throughout the year to enable young people to develop their career awareness, pathway knowledge and employability skills. We are supported in our activity by local employers, training and learning providers and support agencies. The DYW Orkney Activity Planner gives an overview of our planned activity, so those supporting our work can identify if it is something they would like to get involved with. Some of the activities we deliver are ongoing throughout the year, others are regular fixtures that we undertake annually on a specific day or week, while others are one off activities. The 2024 Activity Planner is now available to view here. Please note, this will be updated throughout the year as events are developed. If you would like to discuss participation in any of these activities, please contact the team on [email protected] or on (01856) 569 352. We're back with Jobs of the Week! This will be the last instalment of the year, but don't fret, because we'll be back next year on 11th January 2024. This week's entries include social care positions at Right There, Orkney Health and Care and Scottish Autism, along with an Office Support Apprenticeship position through QA Apprenticeships, and part-time/weekend vacancies at the new Kirkwall Airport Cafe, which is set to open in January. For more information on the vacancies we've included this week, click on the button below. After sending in your application to an open position, you might be asked to complete an interview with the employer. This is a great opportunity, not just for the employer to learn more about you as a person, but for you to ask any questions you may have about what it's like to work for their company. Visit our handy guide here for more tips, and to know what to do and what not to do during a job interview. We are appealing for employers who are interested in offering a work placement to pupils to get in touch with us. Work placements are an opportunity for young people to become familiar with working in a professional workplace, while also helping them learn about and understand the variety of jobs that are available in Orkney. The latest issue of the DYW Orkney Employer’s Newsletter has been published. This issue includes details of training that is being offered to employers by the national DYW team; we launch our new activity planner to help employers know what events we have planned for the next year, and we introduce two new team members. We are also appealing to employers to get involved with some of our activity by supporting mock interviews or offering work placement. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported our activity this year. We look forward to working with more employers in 2024. The newsletter is now available to view online via Sway and you can access it here. Jobs of the Week are live! This week we have part-time opportunities from Mrs Chips, administrative positions at Northwards and UHI Orkney, a Leisure Assistant vacancy at the Stromness Swimming Pool, and an opening at Orkney Islands Council's Hatston garage facilities for a Garage Labourer - and more! For full details of the vacancies we’ve included this week, click on the button below. Relief, temporary and part-time jobs are a brilliant way of gaining experience and refining your skills, which can be put to use in jobs you work all through your life. |
