It is Thursday, which means it is time for Jobs of the Week.
 
This week, we have a festive opportunity with Tesco and part-time opportunities with The Pier Arts Centre and Argo’s Bakery, there is also a weekend position for a Dishwasher at Archive Coffee which would suit a school pupil.

Taking on a seasonal or part-time job while you are at school, college or university is a great way to develop the transferrable skills employers look for.  These can include communication, team work, problem solving and timekeeping.  You can also mention your experience in a job application, CV and in a job interview.

​Organised by Orkney Construction Training Group (OCTG) and supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the Construction Careers Event was developed to showcase the different trades available, highlighting the variety of skills that are needed across the industry.

If you are starting out on your career journey a great way to learn more about a particular job experience working in a professional workplace, is to undertake some work experience.  Work placements can help you identify the sorts of job you may or may not be interested in and can help you make informed choices about your future.

Employability Inputs Begin at KGS

A series of employability inputs have started at Kirkwall Grammar School this year to support pupils to identify a positive post-school destination.

The sessions have been developed by Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Orkney and are supported by local employers and local education and training providers.  The sessions will help pupils with their skills development, raise awareness of the variety of jobs available in Orkney and the different pathways into them and support them to develop their employability skills.
