![]() Today is the last day of the Young People Are Great campaign. Throughout the week we have been hearing from local young people about their success in education, training, volunteering or employment. In our last case study of the week, we hear from Benjamin Derrick who is a student at Orkney College UHI on the Future Tracks course. As part of this course, students take part in the Young Enterprise Team Programme, setting up a company and developing and selling a product. Benjamin was part of the team, The Three Puffketeers, who sold tech bags for storing cables and small tech items at home or while travelling. The team achieved the Best Logo Award and Best Overall Company Award at the Young Enterprise Scottish Finals last week. ![]() Continuing our case studies for the Young People Are Great campaign, today we hear from Louis Pottinger who is a Chef and co-owner of the Pierowall Hotel in Westray. After some time working on a farm, Louis and his family bought the Pierowall Hotel and he undertook a hospitality course at Orkney College UHI to help him develop the skills he needed to work as a chef. ![]() In the second of today’s case studies for the Young People Are Great campaign, we hear from Archie Cannon, who is a Retail Assistant at Employability Orkney. Before working at Employability Orkney, Archie completed a college course but was unsure what to do next. He decided to apply for a job at Restart and has gained valuable skills in his time there. ![]() Continuing our case studies for the Young People Are Great campaign, today we hear from Andy Tait, the Administration Assistant for Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Orkney. Andy tells us about the recent qualification he gained at Orkney College UHI and details the support he has been getting with his employment since working for DYW Orkney. This campaign aims to highlight the key achievements and resilience of young people across Scotland. The campaign will run throughout the week, and each day we will be sharing case studies here from local young people who have achieved success in education, training, volunteering or working. In the first of our case studies, we hear from Douglas Mackenzie who is a Chef-De-Partie at the St Ola Hotel. Douglas tells us about his recent NC in Professional Cookery qualification which he gained at Orkney College UHI. ![]() Developing the Young Workforce Orkney are supporting the national Young People Are Great campaign, which aims to highlight the key achievements and resilience of young people across Scotland. Along with our Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) colleagues across Scotland, we will be taking part in the campaign which runs from Monday 6 to Friday 10 June 2022. We would like to invite young people aged 16-25 years from Orkney (or those living further afield) to take part.
