As part of our Sector Spotlight on NHS Orkney, we have spoken to Amanda Manson, who is a Specialist Cardiac Nurse. Amanda knew she wanted to be a Nurse when she left school. After training in Orkney and Aberdeen, plus 15 years working in hospitals south, she returned home to work for NHS Orkney. Our Sector Spotlight campaign has returned for the summer holidays. Following the opening of the new Balfour Hospital, we will be focusing on the range of clinical and non-clinical careers available within NHS Orkney and - due to the number of jobs within the NHS - we will be shining a spotlight on this sector for the next two weeks. Next week, we will be kicking off a new social media campaign which will shine a spotlight on some of the jobs available in different employment sectors in Orkney. The ‘Sector Spotlight’ campaign will run throughout the year, during school holidays, and each week we will focus on a different sector and some of the jobs available in it. We will be speaking to different people about their job, asking them to describe a typical day, what the best and worst thing about their job is and what skills and qualifications they need to do their job. This is a great chance to learn about the variety of jobs available in Orkney and start thinking how your skills and interests can be used in a future job. Keep a look out on this website and our social media pages next week for our first ever Sector Spotlight posts. |
