An exciting opportunity is currently being offered to local people to undertake an Oil and Gas Technical Apprenticeship at the Flotta Oil Terminal. This is a chance to take part in the Oil and Gas Technical Apprenticeship Programme (OGTAP), which is one of the most successful in the country with a 96% employment rate on completion of the scheme OGTAP offer the following apprenticeships:
The apprenticeship programme is open to anyone; however, applicants must be 16 years of age before May of the year of application. During this time, apprentices will spend 21 months at college in Aberdeen or Edinburgh (Mechanical, Electrical and Process are at North East Scotland College, Aberdeen while Instrumentation and Control will be at Edinburgh College) followed by 24 months on-the-job training with the sponsoring company. OGTAP's sponsor in Orkney currently has an opening to sponsor an Instrument Technician at their Flotta Terminal. Successful applicants will be provided with accommodation, meals and a travel allowance whilst at college. OPITO, the training body, will also pay for your travel home four times per year (October, December, March and July). As this is an apprenticeship, you will also earn while you learn! To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must be domicile in the UK for the duration of the course and have the right to work in the UK. Applicants must also be 16 years of age by May of the year of applying; there is no upper age limit.
