Local employers are invited to book their place at an event that will help them learn more about recruiting apprentices and attracting young people to their workforce. Hosted by Remarkable, on behalf of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce Orkney, this will be an opportunity for local employers to hear from some of the organisations who can help them recruit young people into their business and learn more about accessing the opportunities available to develop new or existing employees. There will also be a chance to hear from local employers who have successfully developed their own young workforce and have a proactive approach to on-the-job training.
If you are a local employer who would like to find out more about recruiting apprentices or speak to the organisations who can support you and your staff, this event is for you. Hilary Crick, from Remarkable said, “We have been commissioned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise to host a series of events focusing on the skills and talents that Scotland’s young people bring to a business. Working in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce Orkney, we have developed a programme to help employers access the information that will enable them to develop their own workforce. “I will also be speaking about the Investors in Young People accreditation, which Remarkable can work with employers to help them achieve. This is a great scheme to be involved in as we can support employers to recruit, develop and retain a young workforce.” Rachel Scarth, Project Manager for DYW Orkney said, “At DYW Orkney, we often hear from employers who just don’t know where to start when it comes to employing young people and are not sure who to turn to. There have also been lots of changes to the apprenticeship programme in Scotland with the introduction of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships, and this can be confusing for employers who are unsure if this is the right route for them and their business. “This event will enable interested employers to speak to agencies such as Skills Development Scotland and Remarkable, who will be able to provide them with appropriate advice and guidance.” The #BeTheChangemaker event will be held on Friday 17 May 2019, 11am-1pm, at Orkney College UHI. If you are interested in attending this FREE event, you will need to book your place by Monday 13 May 2019 via Eventbrite, here. Lunch will be provided, so please advise of any special dietary requirements by emailing [email protected].
