Dave McCallum is a member of the DYW Regional Group Board and is Skills Development Scotland's Area Manager for Orkney, Moray and Shetland. “When I left school, I studied Aeronautical Engineering at college which helped me to decide the career I pursued in the Royal Air Force (RAF). I joined the RAF as a Painter and Finisher restoring the specialised coatings on aircraft. When I was in the RAF I was a member of the RAF Mountain Rescue Team which gave me many opportunities to develop my skills and gain more qualifications. It allowed me to take groups of school children and adults climbing and mountaineering all over the UK and the world.
“I left the RAF after nine years and joined a third sector organisation supporting young people in primary and secondary schools to develop and increase their confidence, their ability to work as part of a team and their ability to learn. “I applied for the role as Area Manager with Skills Development Scotland overseeing the delivery of our Careers Information and Advice in schools and from our local offices. This has allowed me to continue to support people of all ages within my role in each team.” Why did you become involved with DYW Orkney? “My role is to ensure the DYW Orkney Board understands how SDS services are delivered across Orkney and how young people can benefit from them through DYW Orkney projects.” Comments are closed.
