As we all know, schools across the country are closing today and are not expected to re-open before the summer holidays. We would like to wish all the pupils who are finishing school today the best of luck in the coming weeks and months whether they are competing coursework for national qualifications; leaving school to move into training, education or employment; or completing their learning before moving up an academic year and in some cases onto secondary school. We know this will be a stressful and anxious time for you as you adapt to learning in a different way, maintain social distancing from your friends, and are unable to see friends and family members who are self-isolating.
Remember there are lots of people on hand to support you through this time. Teachers and Careers Advisers will still be working and contactable and there are lots of online resources being developed to help you. During this time, it will be important for your physical and mental health to get out into the fresh air (when Orkney’s weather allows!) and go for a walk or exercise, you should also chat to friends over the telephone and social media – sharing a funny meme or video can help cheer you up and keep you connected to your friends. The team at DYW Orkney have really enjoyed working with you all over the last academic year, and we are continuing to plan events for you all to take part in when school does return – we look forward to seeing you all then.
