The next DYW School Co-ordinator in our team is Leah Rendall, who will be based at Kirkwall Grammar School. Leah has always wanted to work with children and young people and has spent over 20 years doing just that in a variety of settings, most recently at Papdale Primary School. Here, Leah tells us a bit about her career journey. “When I left school, I attended Orkney College where I completed an SVQ Level 2 in Care. From there I was employed as a Support for Learning Assistant supporting children and young people with additional support needs. Whilst working I continued my professional development by completing a Classroom Assistant PDA and a HNC in Supporting Learning Needs. As well as being a Support for Learning Assistant in several school settings I have also worked as a CYP Outreach Worker for Women’s Aid Orkney, set up my own business, Peedie Puffins music and movement classes for children under five, and I have also worked as a Nursery Early Years Practitioner.
“In every step of my career the most important thing for me is that I can support the children and young people to reach their goals and achieve their full potential. Children and Young People’s happiness and welfare is at the centre of everything I do.” Explaining why she got involved with DYW Orkney, Leah said: “I am passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people and hope that I can help them with their own career paths by providing them with valuable skills, knowledge and experiences that will help them as they take that big step in to the world of work. I look forward to working with schools, Skills Development Scotland and businesses so we can together provide the young people with the opportunities they require to achieve their goals.” Comments are closed.
