As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, we are helping you understand more about the apprenticeship framework in Scotland. There are three levels of apprenticeship, Foundation, Modern and Graduate. Today we are focusing on Foundation Apprenticeships. Undertaken whilst still at school as part the school timetable, a Foundation Apprenticeship lets you undertake work-based learning to help you gain valuable workplace experience and knowledge.
You will spend part of your time at Orkney College and part of it on a work placement with an employer. You will have a chance to meet employers in the industry, learn more about careers in the sector and put your skills into practice working on real projects. A Foundation Apprenticeship counts as one of your subject choices and gives a qualification that is the same as a Higher. Like any Higher qualification, they can help you move onto a Modern Apprenticeship, College, University or straight into work. There are four Foundation Apprenticeships available in Orkney. They are:
