Are you currently considering your next steps into education, employment or training but need some extra help? Developing the Young Workforce Orkney and Skills Development Scotland have developed an online careers event to help you make decisions about your future. The ‘Your Next Steps’ careers event provides information and advice on Work, Support and, Education and Training. You will find a mix of videos, presentations and links to other websites to help you take your next step. In the Work section, you can hear from some local businesses about what they do and some of the jobs available with them. They will also tell you what skills and qualities they look for in their staff, as well as some of the qualifications or subjects they look for in different roles. This is ideal for any young person choosing a future career, and may help with subject choices at school, college or university. There are also links to information to help you write your CV, complete a job application or prepare for an interview.
Anyone who needs some extra help to take their next step can find information about local support services in the Support section. These include JobCentre Plus and Orkney Employment Support, as well as details of progression courses on offer at Orkney College UHI. There are also a range of videos from Skills Development Scotland which can help everyone move onto further education, training or employment. The Education and Training section includes links to Scottish Universities and Colleges to help you explore the options available for further study, while you will also be able to learn more about Apprenticeships, including hearing from people who have undertaken a range of apprenticeships here in Orkney.
